The Hottest of Summers
03:31
|
|||
Summer is ending, the days are drawing in
But here you lie with me, an echo of it
Sweet summer romance doesn’t have to end here
Come closer warm me darling as the autumn comes near
The hottest of summers too must end
But that doesn't mean we have to my friend
No, no, no
For i love the autumn too, and I’d like to see it with you
So come closer hold me tight
Through the darkening autumn nights
Sweet lovesick cliches they roll off my tongue
What are you doing to me, what have you done darling
Kindness it comes so naturally to you
And the best thing is I’m having so much fun too
The hottest of summers too must end
But that doesn't mean we have to my friend
No, no, no
For I love the winter too, and I’d like to see it with you
And the chilly winds that blow
Just mean I’ll get to hold you closer
Gaze out to sea with me, climb every hill
I’m no good at hiding how i feel
So say that you’ll come with me
Reach out across the distance and we’ll be ok
We’ll climb each wall and ford each stream that comes our way
The hottest of summers will come again
Let's greet the next one together
No matter where or when
You and I
For I love the spring too, and I’d like to see it with you
The new flowers and soft rain
Say that summer will come again

Helen

I’m falling for Helen and there’s no way of telling
How deep this rabbit hole goes
She’s charming, with a smile that’s so disarming
And god help me, when she looks my way
My poor heart glows
Oh and she's no pageant princess
No, she’s a beauty all her own
That stems from quiet confidence
As if there’s something only she knows
And since I’m falling for Helen
And there seems to be no way of telling
Might as well see how deep this rabbit hole goes
She’s near, she’s far, she’s a shooting star
For all she might notice little me
Her laughter’s like music
And I know my poor heart couldn’t bear it
If i ever saw her cry
Oh wars have been fought for faces like yours
Honey, come be my Helen of Troy
Though I warn you I’m not much of a fighter honey
More of a lover and I could be yours
And since I’m falling for Helen
And there’s no damn way of telling, I
If I’ll make it out of this rabbit hole at all

First Love
04:14
|
|||
I still dream of you, it’s silly I know
The last time I saw you was many years ago
But in my dreams you want only me still, it’s silly I know
It’s not as if I even know you any more
When we were thirteen you took my first kiss
When we were seventeen you took something else
It’s not as if I’ve seen you since
It’s not as if I’ve been alone since then
But you hold some power over me still
And if I saw you today oh I know what I’d say
I’d beg release me
Release my heart from your ghostly grip
Oh let me give it quite whole to another
Who cares for me not in dreams but today
I still see your face, it’s silly I know
Feel your heart close to mine in that last embrace
Feel your arms close around me still, it’s silly I know
It’s not as if you’d even know me anymore
You don’t know me no more
I’d beg release me
Release my heart from your ghostly grip
Oh let me give it quite whole to another
Who cares for me not in dreams but today
Who cares for me today
To those poor fools listening to this song
I hope it may never be your unlucky lot
To know the one that you truly adored
Is beyond your reach, quite gone
I beg release me
Release my heart from your ghostly grip
Oh let me give it quite whole to another
Who cares for me not in dreams but today
Who cares for me today

As I Walked Alone
04:42
|
|||
One day as I walked alone, I came across a quiet cross road
And there I saw a girl with hair the colour of autumn
And eyes all shades of the spring
She looked so lost I was compelled to ask
If I might help or show her the way
But she said “no I thank you,
It’s not the road ahead that gives me pause but that I leave which makes me stay
Will I forget where we met
Will those three words ever mean what they once meant
And will I regret all that went unsaid
Am I cursed to remember or doomed to forget?”
One day as I walked alone, I came upon a wide lake
And there I saw a man with hair the colour of starlight
And eyes all shades of the earth
He looked so sad I was compelled to ask
If I might help or brighten his day
But he said, “no I thank you,
It’s not this day I mourn, but one’s long passed away.
I begin to forget when we met
And those three words are on a loop in my head
And how I regret all that went unsaid
Am I cursed to remember or doomed to forget?”
My road it took me to the sea, and from the top of those white cliffs
I saw a woman kneeling and weeping in the sand
But through her tears she smiled
I asked, “lady, how can it be,
That you smile through all this grief?”
And she turned to me and said
“It might hurt to remember but it’s worse to forget”
“But surely it’s far worse to forget”
Will I forget when we met
Will those three words ever mean what they once meant
And will I regret all that went unsaid
Am I cursed to remember or doomed to forget?
Are we cursed to remember or doomed to forget?

This Too Shall Pass
03:47
|
|||
Are the walls closing in around you
Has the world turned away
Does emptiness fill, overwhelm you
You can’t leave, but you can’t stay
When demons surround you and there’s nowhere to hide
The hardest thing to run from if your mind
No one to listen and no one to care
And why should they bother they’d be wasting their breath
This too shall pass, from the first to the last
And all that I ask is that you hold on
Hold on to the things and the people you love
And we who love you, we will stay by your side
We will pull you through each time
When the night seems the darkest, I am there at your side
When the dawn's light brings no respite my heart’s open wide
Open the curtains and throw wide the doors
The day’s ours for the taking, mine and yours
We’ll take each step together, come on hold my hand
The first step’s the hardest and then
This too shall pass, from the first to the last
And all that I ask is that you hold on
Hold on to the things and the people you love
And we who love you, we will stay by your side
We will pull you through every time
You’ve suffered at the hand of fate and of man
And there is no solution, no perfect plan
No answers to our questions, no beginning no end
So right now is the moment to stand up and defend
Your right to be happy, your right to be free
From pain and from sadness, from want and from loneliness
And to reach out a hand and to feel
That someone is holding it fast
This too shall pass
